PATRON-IN-CHIEF
HER EXCELLENCY PROFESSOR MARIE BASHIR AC, CVO

Her Excellency, Professor Marie Bashir AC, CVO is Governor of NSW and was Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Sydney until her appointment as Governor in March 2001.

After gaining her degrees in Medicine and Surgery in 1956, Professor Bashir taught at the Universities of NSW and Sydney. She worked increasingly with children, particularly their psychiatric and mental health care as well as matters of Indigenous health.

She has been involved in a vast number of organisations, both community and professional, from Amnesty International to Opera Australia. For her services to child and adolescent health, Professor Bashir was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1988 and a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2001.

 

PATRON
LADY MARIGOLD SOUTHEY, AC

Lady Marigold Southey AC has been Lieutenant-Governor of Victoria since January 2001. She was Director of the Myer Family Companies from the mid 50's until she retired in December 1999 and remains President of Philanthropy Australia and President of the St Catherine's School Foundation.

Lady Southey is a great supporter of The Australian Ballet and became a Life Member in 2000. She has provided grants for promising younger dancers and technical staff to travel overseas for further study. However, like the rest of her family, her interests and philanthropic endeavors reach much wider.

Lady Southey was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in 1999 for her service to the community in support of health care, medical research, the environment and the arts, and a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2006 for her ongoing philanthropy
